The Purist Collection Story
For those of you who don't already know me (I won't take offence, promise), my name's Emily. I'm a student naturopath, and I'm passionate about bringing you beautiful, pure products inspired by nature and natural therapies.
Back in the day, my life revolved around fashion and beauty. I'll be honest; I loved making myself feel amazing and confident and happy through the clothes I wore and the products I bought for myself. I thought that was all that I really needed. I styled photoshoots for magazines, worked with beautiful models and talented creatives, modeled myself, and even had my own label for a while. But then the Universe gave me a little nudge (actually, quite a huge one...who am I kidding?!), and I withdrew from the fancy fashion college in Sydney, cancelled the move over East, and decided to stay at home. The fashion thing wasn't serving my purpose. It just wasn't sitting right with me.
When my Mum fell ill (she was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2011, but is now – thankfully – in remission…although not without more than a fair share of treatments, surgeries and ongoing complications), we found out that the form of cancer she’d had was actually genetic. I follow after my Mum in so many ways, and I realised that I couldn’t - I wouldn't - sit around wondering if or when I’d be dealt the same card.
At the same time I began to learn about the potential dangers hidden in my beloved beauty products. I discovered, much to my horror, that no matter how much I loved them, they weren't really loving me (or not my insides, anyway).
At least 60% of every single thing we slip, slop or slap onto our skin (we’re talking about roughly 9 products per day for the average adult) ends up inside of our bodies and bloodstreams as though we’d actually swallowed it. And considering we’re rubbing, spraying, wiping, scrubbing and slathering our bodies with 126 unique chemicals per day, on average (with 89% of those chemicals never having been tested for safety, by the way!), we’re exposing ourselves to issues spanning from allergies to cancers, reproductive issues to infertility, hormonal imbalances to learning disabilities, and more.
I started to realise that I want my life to be full of the knowledge I need to implement, live and love the healthiest, happiest life possible. I want to be able to control my future; to take my health into both of my hands, and make it brilliant. And I don’t want all of the above for just myself, but I’d love that for every other woman out there too! I guess, in short, that’s why I do what I do, and why I love doing it so much.
So, I make naturally therapeutic products for body, soul and home with the intention of helping as many women to live their healthiest, happiest lives as possible. Inspired by nature and natural therapies (particularly naturopathy, herbal medicine and aromatherapy), I hand make natural skincare, herbal teas, and candles. And, in case you haven't noticed, I bloody love writing too - so combining my education in wellness and my passion for writing via blogging was a bit of a no-brainer.
Let me assure you: I know that the market is saturated with ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ products nowadays. I know that you can buy natural skincare, or herbal teas, or just about any 'wellness' related product just about anywhere.
It's exactly why I utilise my naturopathic knowledge (I've almost finished my Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy) to make sure that my products actually WORK – they’re all infused with therapeutic medicinal herbs, and formulated with specific ailments in mind (for example, my Dry Skin Balm features ingredients scientifically proven to help relieve dry skin conditions like eczema).
It's also exactly why I write - I want you to know and believe that your healthiest, happiest life is accessible too, and I want to get you excited about living it.
I'm not messing around when it comes to my health and wellbeing, and I sure as heck ain't messing around with yours!
